Handsome 18th Century Oak Longcase Clock by John Tolson, London c.1720 with four pillar, eight day movement which chimes the hour on a bell with an inside count wheel. Separate seconds hand dial & date calendar aperture. Brass dial with finely cast mask spandrels, wheatsheaf cross hatching & silvered chapter ring. Slim oak case with long trunk door & shaped plinth. A fine example.

Maker : John Tolson (1691-1737)
John Tolson is noted for his fine quality workmanship & for his similarity in style & standards to Thomas Tompian. Due to his relatively short working life examples of his clocks are hard to find. Tolson became a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers on 2nd May 1715 & in 1717 he established premises in Hand Alley, (now New Street) near Bishopsgate Street, London, where he continued to trade until his death in 1737.

Stunning Regency Mahogany Cabinet c.1820 with lovely figured mahogany to the upstand, top, ogee shaped drawer front, panelled doors and ends. Decorative hand turned bead mouldings to the upstand shelf and to the edges of the top. Scrolling 'S' supports to the shelf with well carved shell and leaf decoration to the upstand typical of this period. Plain turned columns to each end of the cabinet base and turned oval applied mouldings to the plinth. Attractive original ring turned squat feet. Cabinet doors open to reveal single adjustable shelf.

Stunning Pair of Early 19th Century Silver Candlesticks in hexagonal form & in typical late Georgian style. Detachable sconces & knopped stems.

Likely originally part of a large set of candlesticks which was added to by the owner over time. These candlesticks match exactly in form, one candlestick is hallmarked KW&C Sheffield 1834, the other I&IW&Co. Sheffield 1826.

Both solid silver, in lovely condition.

After Gainsborough, A Beautiful Edwardian Portrait of a Young Lady.

A portrait, oil on board, of a beautiful young lady wearing the iconic 'Gainsborough Chapeau' a style that was popularised at the end of the 18th Century by the hats often seen on the ladies painted by famous British portrait artist Thomas Gainsborough (1727–1788). This portrait although unsigned is a well executed Edwardian take on the Gainsborough beauty. Gilt frame in good condition.

Outstanding Georgian Convex Mirror c.1820 with impressive eagle mount & stylised dolphins to either side. The eagle with outstretched wings carries a chain & ball in its beak. The convex mirror plate is framed with an ebonised mahogany reeded slip. This mirror retains most of its original gilt & has some minor wear to the gesso & gilt commensurate with age. A striking example.
